We all know that a LBD is a staple in most women's wardrobe, but what about a Little Black Sundress? Seems like such an anomaly, but it may just be the most versatile piece you'll own. I ordered this one from the J. Crew web site a few weeks ago as it was on sale. I have to say~it's probably my favorite new addition to my closet.
I ordered this J. Crew sundress on a whim last weekend and I'm so glad I did! This little piece could quite feasibly be the only item of clothing I need for a long weekend: it's 100% cotton so it's super comfy for car trips, lightweight so it could function as a beach cover up, but the cut makes it easy to dress up. This dress may mean I actually have a shot at packing light now! :)
J. Crew Dress, Forever 21 linen jacket, Nine West heels
I think this would work for a summer casual Friday office look. Even though I don't work outside of the home now~I am picturing this extremely glamorous whirlwind weekend trip, with nothing but some bikinis, accessories and high heels in my duffle bag, haha. Yes, this is a complete fantasy, I know :)
In my scenario, I replaced the heels with some colorful sandals (Steve Madden), added my favorite summery turquoise cuff, and took off the jacket so I could soak up the sun while my hair blows in the wind of my ferrari as I drive to a somewhat exotic and beachy locale.
dress: J. Crew, black studded belt: J. Crew (currently on sale in-store for $19.99), necklace: F21, gold heels: BCBG
It's time for dinner at a dynamite restaurant so I dress it up a bit with some gold accessories.
Belt: Fred Flare, Bronze heels: Via Spiga
In my fantasy vacation, I would definitely go out dancing like the old days! For this, I would pair the dress with a chunky studded statement belt and some strappy, sexy heels.
Gold Sandals: Steve Madden, Straw Bag: Banana Republic, Straw Sunhat: F21
The next day I'm off to shop in this casual outfit. Of course, I have a fabulous bikini on underneath this so I can hit the beach right away.
Cardigan: J. Crew, Floral Sash: J. Crew, Pearl Necklace: J. Crew, Champagne Heels: BCBG
A fantasy vacation would not be complete without an amazing Sunday brunch--this is what I would wear to sip mimosas and indulge in Belgian waffles.
Well, I have to run. I need to go pack grapes, goldfish, wipes, diapers, a doll, a truck, two coloring books, crayons, my son's backpack, my daughter's purse and two sippy cups. Just for a trip to the mall :)

I ADORE all of these outfits! So cute! You have convinced me to go out and get my own! :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteWow, this dress is really versatile. I love all the outfits you created with this dress. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd a very entertaining post as well. Especially the last part *lol*

This is such an awesome post. I love the different looks and how the whole look of the outfit changes with some simple accessories. Love it!!! I like I'm in the market for a SLBD (Summer) lol.
ReplyDeleteI love how you created so many different looks with this dress. I think I need one now :)
ReplyDeleteHaha so adorable! I just need a young tan cabana boy to go with that fantasy!
ReplyDeleteLove ya!
You have given me some great styling ideas! I have about 5 LBD's, two of which are more casual. I love them for the Summer. Black is always in season =)
ReplyDeleteI love these posts! You do such a fab job styling your pieces in soo many ways... great job Andi!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! You are the queen of making a piece of clothing multi-task! Now, before my spending freeze kicks in, I may have to set off in search of a summer LBD. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! I just bought an LB(S)D, and I love it. So fun to see the different ways you've styled yours!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! Glad you enjoyed this post ladies! I am just to the point where I don't bother buying something unless I can get tons of use out of it. I think a SLBD will be a perfect purchase for anyone!
ReplyDeleteI so appreciate your feedback and input, thanks so much!
That linen jacket is GORGEOUS. How long ago did you get it?
ReplyDeleteCute dress, love it with the cardigan. You have killer legs!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress....and all the ways you've styled it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new-ish j.crew customer and cannot for the life of me figure out why their sizing is so wonky. Is it me, or does everything run a bit big? Can you tell me how this dress fits? Would you say it's TTS?
What a cute idea!! I bet you had just as much fun at the mall with your gorgeous kids though :)
ReplyDeleteI love all the outfits! So cute! I so want the linen jacket!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, the beauty powder got here today! Yey!! Thank you soooo much for sending it to me! You're the sweetest ♥
You look amazing Andi. Those looks are great. It's so fun to accessorize & make so many looks from one piece. You're really good at that. <3 xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteLove all the looks you created - my fave is the one with the cardigan and the floral sash.
ReplyDeleteOh - and the dose of reality at the end - that's my life too - sippy cups and diaper wipes all the way LOL!
love all the outfits you made with the dress!
ReplyDeleteThank you ladies! Glad you liked this one :)
ReplyDelete@ Steph, I left you a comment too, but this linen jacket was at F21 in April-it may still be around?
@Michelle-yay! so glad you got it! Can't wait to see a FOTD with it.
@ Delilah- Glad to have a fab new reader! Yes, J. Crew's sizing usually does run on the bigger side. Right now, I'm a big 6 or an 8 and this dress is size Small. So I would say it definitely runs a tad big. That sparkly tank top is also a size Small too and I have a DDD bust. My general rule of thumb with J. Crew is--if the item is 100% cotton and loose/slouchy fitting, I usually order a Small. I just bought a dress from there though that had a bit more structure and was more form fitting and I went with the 8, which was perfect. Hope that helps! :)
Love this post Andi, you're too cute with all the fantasy scenarios. I do that too sometimes, lol.
ReplyDeleteYour LBSD is perfect, you look fab as usual in all the outfits, so talented with putting great looks together! Love your 'going out dancing' one the best, and LOVE those Via Spiga heels!
I have a couple LBSDs and a LB(Maxi)D, lol, which is a great summer staple as well.
Have fun at the mall, happy shopping!
xoxo
Oh I love this post! You seriously pulled together some great outfits!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this post, you gave me lots of options for a similiar black knit dress I just bought! I am especially digging the studded belt at the empire waist. Totally my style, GF!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Mavjen
nothing is more versatile than a LBD...especially a J.Crew one :-)! love how you styled all the outfits!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your dress and the way you jazz it up. Expecially the studded belt.
ReplyDeleteSooooo many fabulous combos. LOVE those champagne heels!
ReplyDeleteLOVE all the looks with the LBD...my fav was with the Fred Flare belt. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post...
ReplyDeleteWow, you have sold me on this dress. Apparently it IS all that you need for a fab weekend away!!
ReplyDeleteIt's just a matter of grabbing the dress, packing a few accessories, jumping into the Ferrari and then you're off!!!
You are awesome. The end.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this! I just purchased a little black sundress for a wedding I'm going to this weekend. I loved how it fit but then feared it might not be dressy enough for the evening event. I knew I could doll it up with jewelry but I love all these combos! Thank you for making me feel better about my choice, not just for the big event but for the rest of the summer!!! ox
ReplyDeleteLOVE when you show us one piece SO many different ways! I am annoyed with myself for continually passing this dress up - online, in the store where I ignored my rule of "just try it on." Its adorable! I love it! Very versatile. I love these cotton dresses from J. Crew lately, I wear them all the time over here & they are perfect!!
ReplyDeleteHi gorgeous! Mushroom is not matte, it is one of the shimmery eyeshadows in the Urban Decay Book of Shadows vol. II. It is lovely! It's not frost, or glittery, it is just shimmery, but it's buttery soft, so it melts in the skin, instead of sitting there.
ReplyDeleteThe Hard Candy Chica Loner shadow...hard to define. I've just got it. It is a pinkish beige shadow, I think it's more pinkish than beige with a primer underneath. It has some glitters though...
@ Nikosmommy-LOL!
ReplyDelete@Kelly-I think a black sundress would be perfect for a wedding! How did you wear it? How did it work out for you?
@MsHark-this is a great little dress, but you have so many great ones with you that you can probably do the same things with.
@Lydia-thank you so much for the replies! I love soft pinks as a transition color too, I still can't get over your skin and how perfect it is!
