Hi all! Geez, November has a way of really kicking my butt. Between events at the kids' school, hosting Thanksgiving, planning my daughter's birthday party, NaNo and Christmas shopping-I'm spread extremely thin around this time of year. Sadly, my fitness routine is one of the first places from which I borrow time. This is not ideal or recommended, but sometimes it just can't be helped. I ran across this 4 minute workout on Pinterest and thought I would post it here. Everyone is busy during the holiday season, everyone has commitments and time restraints and holiday-related stress. But everyone also has four minutes a day to sneak in some exercise and maintain health.
This workout was invented by a Japanese scientist and claims to burn as many calories as a 40 minute run. Another great benefit is that this workout is supposed to keep metabolic rates increased for 36 hours after performing it. I am not sure if these claims are 100% accurate but I do know that I feel stronger after doing it. I also feel a hell of a lot better about at least doing something rather than just skipping exercise all together. I feel like this is a perfect alternative for those with little free time who can't commit to an hour in the gym or don't have the time to fit in even a 30 minute workout session at home. It's a great option especially around this time of year when events, invitations and commitments just have a way of popping up. Wake up--take 4 minutes to do this routine. Then you're done and you can get on with your day. Easy peasy. You can click here to watch the full workout/tutorial.
Do your workouts go by the wayside during the holiday season or are you even more of a warrior? What's your favorite fast and effective workout, series or fitness routine? Have a happy Tuesday!

I saw this video couple of weeks ago on Pinterest and gave it a try. It just made me realize how out of shape I am. It was kicking my butt, I don't think I even finished lol
ReplyDeleteI've been sort of addicted to bodyrock.tv (spend more time watching the videos than actually doing them). That girl is amazing and lot of her workouts are pretty short but very intense.
Andi,
ReplyDeletegreat post - reminds me a lot of Billy Blanks 8-minute-workout which kicks butt, too!
Well to me it´s the other way round: Since my knee injury I am slowly getting back on track with my workout and diet (read: s-l-o-w-l-y).
It´s hard after all those weeks!
I also re-designed Spunkyrella* and have a question if you don´t mind: I want my post titles and links to have a different color but I don´t seem to find the right adjustment. If you have a second to help me out - also would love to see you over at Spunkyrella* again ;)
Andi! That's a great workout, reminds me of a Jillian Michaels workout, definitely doable if you're pressed for time.
ReplyDeleteAs for my routine? Still trying to Master the Method, maybe I can skip cardio and do this one instead???
Thank you for this! I will most definitely try it. Hey, 4 minutes is 4 minutes right? We can all find that amount of time to do a little workout. I struggle so much this time of year with working out. I'm still going to the gym, but only once or twice a week. It's hard to gain the weight and then try to lose it after the holidays.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this video. I am always looking for ways to work out for short periods of time so this is great!!!

Lilly-I know, right? for just 4 minutes, this packs a pretty powerful punch. I've heard such good things about that bodyrock girl, I will have to check her out. thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Martie! I don't know a thing about changing the colors of the post titles-I am sorry. My site was designed by a pro and he programmed in my settings including colors, so I have zero experience. Glad you're feeling well enough to get back on track with your routine now!
Hi Shan-it does remind me of Jillian--hard core and to the point, which I appreciate especially when I'm pinched for time. You are rocking the Method-you look INCREDIBLE.
Noelle-exactly, we can all find 4 minutes somewhere in the day and it's great when the drive to the gym seems too daunting. I definitely have those days. This is a great way to keep active.
Hope you like this workout Christina!
I'm SO out of the game when it comes to working out, so this might be a good thing for me to try to get me used to doing SOMETHING again.
ReplyDeletethis is insane, so of course i want to try it! thanks for the post!

I really needed to see this video, what a great workout in such little time. All of my exercise has fallen by the wayside since the summer, but I can get back into it with the help of a 4 minute workout. I must admit I was tired just watching it, lol. xo
ReplyDeleteWell, I have to say I was set and determined to workout during the holidays, but it truly is SO hard. You're making cookies and pies and cheesecakes and eating good food made my your Mom and...yadda yadda. I tried starting back my fitness program the other day and it's pretty much been a big FAIL. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to workout the next two months, but I don't expect to lose anything- which is my goal- and I'm OK with that for now.
I am a FIRM believer in Insanity. The stuff is amazing and gives me the best results I've ever had! This 4 minute routine you posted about has the same moves Insanity does- of course Insanity is longer than 4 minutes, but still. You can imagine the workout it gives.
Those are called Tabata sprints, and they are completely bad-ass and throw-upping-making.
ReplyDeleteOne of my college professors, Dr. Grant Horner, uses them in prep for mountain climbing every summer (he's a world-class climber)--and highly recommends them as a singularly effective way to up your O2 intake.
Good luck with them!
